Carbidopa was incorporated into treatment of Parkinson’s disease because Levodopa alone causes nausea, sometimes to the point that it prevents the therapeutic dose of L-Dopa to be achieved. However, Carbidopa causes terrible and sometimes irreversible side effects.
The solution: Administration of proper levels of 5-HTP (the precursor to serotonin) can be effective in controlling L-dopa induced nausea. When proper levels of 5-HTP are administered with L-dopa, carbidopa is not needed and side effects are no longer an issue.
